Another road trip to my beloved hometown, Nembe, gets me really worked up, especially the Yenagoa-Ogbia stretch. Maybe I am over reacting, but every Bayelsan that has been a Governor or Deputy Governor of our State should hide their head in shame. The shamelessness defies belief.
To think that Bayelsans, not the Hausa-Fulani and Yorubas and Ibos that we love to blame all our lives, have been running our state for over twenty years, managing between themselves trillions of Naira in the period, and we still have these death traps as "roads" to and through our major "towns". To think we have produced a President, NDDC MDs, Senators, House of Reppers, and several Ministers, including Ministers of Nigeria's most prestigious portfolio (Petroleum), in addition to the various characters that have been Governors !!! Extremely disgraceful and the worst form of shamelessness one could ever imagine. They owe our people tons of apologies. If I were one of them, I would render a historic apology on behalf of their failed collective. Any of them should take the que
And we continue to waste our time and respect inviting and describing these fellows as *Guests of Honour* and all what not.
Why are our people such gluttons for punishment and impoverishment? Why is there so much brain poverty (apologies to Prof Kombo) at the top in Bayelsa State and the Niger Delta at large?
Can we just stop this primitive practice of honouring gross failures who repeatedly frustrate the grace of God amongst us, until at the minimum they SHOW us beyond doubt and wretched sycophancy how they have used (not _will use_) fresh opportunities to make up for their past gross failures? Let's stop making idols of folks who have only showed a capacity for bankrupting, degrading and deadening such a naturally blessed land as Bayelsa. Let's stop needlessly showing ourselves senseless when we are quite the opposite.
